THE MAGNIFICENT PORTER HEIGHTS SKI TRIP.
After months of planning and a lot of meetings, twenty eight Wainoni pupils, four teachers and the Police Education Officer, Constable Debbie, all gathered at Wainoni Primary School gate by 7:30 am local time on Tuesday 8 September. Just before Wainoni Primary met a number of schools in the Canterbury district at the ski field, they stopped at Springfield for a snack. A few pupils at Wainoni bought their snack at the nearest café. They all finished travelling to the ski field via convoy.
The bright reflection of the snow made all of the skiers or snowboarders wear safety ski goggles or sunglasses. All the schools that came to Porters Heights had to wear their gear they brought before they were allowed to collect their skis. The schools first had ski lessons until lunchtime when everyone ate or kept trying to get into the intermediate area, apparently the only one that got wiped out in Wainoni School was Taylor.
